The Pillars of Wellness
If your wellness journey is lacking, you might be missing the key 7 Secrets to Success that provide the breakthrough you’ve been chasing!
Chavah Wellness provides general educational information on various topics on this website as a public service, which should not be construed as health care advice. These are my personal opinions only. See my full disclaimer here.
Woman of God, welcome! I am so glad you’re here because everything I built my business on is built around you! Yep, that’s right, you, my friend.
And since it’s all about you, let’s dive into the name behind Chavah, because I want you to understand the vision and purpose behind what we do here so you can understand how deeply important and worthy of wellness you truly are.
When it came time to choose a name for my business, conventional wisdom said that it made the most sense to name it after myself. Many businesses, especially in the coaching world, are simply the name of the coach themself. Think: Jenna Kutcher, Amy Porterfield, Jasmine Star, Tony Robbins, Dave Ramsey. You get the idea.
While it wasn’t a bad idea, I’m very aware that the name Jerusha is often hard to pronounce and even harder to remember!
Ironically, I chose another name that rivals that issue.
So why Chavah? What’s up with this unique moniker?
The truth is, this was more than a business idea. There was purpose behind it, and when I prayed, I heard God telling me that it wasn’t about me, it was about you. Yes, you! The woman, or parent, reading this now.
The person desperately wanting to restore their health and get back to all that God called them to be instead of being sick, tired, depressed, in search of joy and peace, or anyone who lands somewhere in between.
God has more for you, and Chavah is a statement of restoration.
We first find Chavah in the Bible. She enters the scene as the first answer to the first problem.
You see, God made the Garden perfect. Perfect, accept, that Adam was lonely. Although seemingly an oversight, God knew that Adam wasn’t created to do life alone. He knew that He would soon give Adam a directive: be fruitful and multiply, which Adam wasn’t created to do on his own either. Enter: Chavah.
You might be thinking, “Hold up! This girl’s name was Eve!” We’ll get to that in a minute.
In Hebrew, her name was Chavah and she was created in perfection – to walk in a perfect Garden, and to walk perfectly with God.
Her name was a reflection of all she was created to be, translating “mother of all life”.
This was more than her womb, it was a statement of bringing life to everything around her, to take something small and multiply it.
She was not just a companion, she would multiply Adam’s life as well as everything around her. She would multiply joy and love. She would multiply Adam’s seed and bring forth family. She would nurture and grow everything she touched including her family, and the world around her.
She would walk with God in the Garden, just as she was created to do. She lived in beauty, joy, and peace. She loved and was fully loved in return.
When the enemy came for her, he asked her if she wanted to be more like God. And why wouldn’t she? Chavah loved God. Why shouldn’t she desire wisdom? Couldn’t she serve her family and generations to come with it?
She had good intentions, but her disobedience to God cost her everything in that moment.
Her fall must have been a devastating blow she wrestled with for years. I can only imagine the feeling of shame rushing over her for the first time and the anguish within, full of regret.
In English, Chavah is translated as Eve. It seems that we’ve tried to rename her based on her actions.
In the modern world, Eve is known for her sin. You say “Eve”, and you think “That’s right! The girl who caused our problems. She’s why we suffer each month, and each pregnancy and birth! She’s the reason we’re not living in paradise anymore”.
It’s easy to think that way because we’ve grown up with a generation who recognizes her that way.
An assumption that’s been made in history is that Chavah was made for greatness, but her fall cost her everything, even her identity and her calling. But that’s not true.
We are refined in the wilderness, but we are not defined by it.
Even in this new, barren world, stark and devastatingly disappointing compared to the Garden, God still whispered her name, Chavah. Like a breath of wind, He called her name in her desolate, dry land to remind her she was still Chavah.
In the middle of the desert, long before she learned how to flourish in her new environment, God was bringing waters to her wilderness.
Even in the midst of her sin, He was already planning her redemption. A way to restore her to eternity with Him.
He would find a way to bring her living water to refresh and renew her life, so she could remember all that she was called to be.
She was still a powerhouse of nurturing and multiplication for all life around her.
She was still an answer to a problem: sin in the world.
She still had a calling: to seek God in all her ways.
And now, even though she lived in a world where the enemy reigned, she had power over him and would crush his head.
This is your calling too.
While the world was calling Chavah by her sin, God still called her by her purpose and identity.
Sure, she had some natural consequences because of her choice, and fulfilling her purpose would look different now, but she was still all that God created her to be.
On the other side of her mistake, God was beckoning her to rise up and restore the wellness she was created for, within and without, to the people and the environment around her.
Often in the Bible we see God re-naming people and it’s always connected to their purpose and identity. Can you see the moment in The Chosen when Simon is renamed Peter? His new name meant “the rock”, a rock which God would use to build His church.
We also see Abram becoming Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel. Each name change aligned the person with the calling God had for them. God always calls people higher than their current circumstance.
God is calling you higher too. Chavah serves as a reminder, that as the first woman a part of her represents God’s calling to all women on the Earth, His original design for us to be a source of life, nurturing and multiplication to all around us, a wellspring of wellness that starts within.
It’s a reminder, that when we turn to God, and seek Wellness in mind, body and spirit, that we can restore more of who we were called to be: healthy and whole and equipped for every good work set before us.
This could feel encouraging, or deeply discouraging. If you’ve been like me then you’ve spent years feeling just the opposite of this image. Struggling with exhaustion and depletion, feeling tired and empty, and struggling to know how to make things better. I get it!
But we were made for more than this, and restoring your wellness body, mind, and spirit is a key to changing everything.
We’ve been taught to sacrifice our lives to give to others. It’s one thing to serve wholeheartedly, it’s another to kill ourselves in the process.
As Havilah Cunnington calls it, we become “Mommy Martyrs”. And we feel that, don’t we? Some days, or some seasons, we feel like spiritually, mentally and physically we’re living in a dry and weary land.
But we don’t have to kill ourselves to be a Proverbs 31 woman. In fact, I believe she knew her own value and worth and took care of herself, which is how she was able to give so much to her family and still be full of joy!
Proverbs 31 says she “laughs, without fear of the future”, and that she is “energetic and strong”.
I don’t know about you, but I could use some of that!
She’s not some far-reaching figure that’s meant to hold us in shame when we can’t measure up! There’s something going on behind the scenes that makes her capable of all that she does, and joyful in the midst of it.
Chavah’s name gives us definition to who we were called to be, and the Proverbs 31 woman gives us an example of how we are to be.
Now, we just have to look at how God designed us to be (our needs: body, mind, and spirit) and lean into wellness so that we can be well within, and equipped for the good work God has set before us.
You were created for wellness. The innate needs of your body, mind and spirit were created to build you up to be healthy, well, vibrant, energetic, clear minded, and full of joy, peace and purpose.
I know this to be true, more than anyone! I was living in the opposite camp for years: stressed, depressed, exhausted and worn thin. I thought the answer was doing more.
I resisted the very thing I needed the most: to focus on my own wellness so I could be a wellspring of wellness around me.
It’s still a challenge for me sometimes! But when I’m struggling I return to what I know to be true: God created me for wellness and when I’m well, my family is healthier too.
Of course, this type of wellness doesn’t come with an instruction manual or even a roadmap. (Wouldn’t that be nice though?) God made you unique and set apart. You weren’t specially designed so that you could follow a one-size-fits-all path in life. The same is true of your wellness journey.
The good news is, you don’t have to do this journey alone!
